Franklin Makes Diamond League Debut, Coburn Chases Nine Minutes and a Duel in the 400-Meter Hurdles - Oslo Diamond League PreviewBy Adam Kopet Newly minted American record holder, Tori Franklin, is making her Diamond League debut Thursday at the Bislett Games in Oslo. Franklin, got the triple jump record with a leap of 48-8.25 (14.84m) last month in a meet on the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe. Franklin is coming off a win at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, on Tuesday where she jumped 46-3.50 (14.11m) in cold conditions.
Also competing in Oslo is Emma Coburn in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She was with the leading group in last week's Rome Golden Gala Diamond League meeting going into the final water jump. However, she fell when she landed and dropped to fourth overall. Coburn stated in Wednesday's press conference that she is chasing a sub-nine-minute performance. The pace setters are scheduled to take the race through 2,000 meters in six minutes, right on pace for a performance around nine minutes.
The 400-meter hurdles could prove to be the race of the meet. World leader and Diamond League record holder Abderrahman Samba of Qatar will face off against hometown favorite and reigning world champion Karsten Warholm. Warholm won this race last year, but his victory at home is not guaranteed. Last week in Rome, Samba got the better of Warholm, running 47.48 to Warholm's 47.82. Both men set personal bests.
